There is one key talent that certain artists have that sets them apart from the rest; that is the ability to bring a particular scene to life when set on canvass.
People, pets, places; all can result in incredibly evocative pieces of art, but if painted by the wrong person, they can be as lifeless as the paints that are used to represent them.
David Ball recognises this need for life to be injected into everything he creates and works hard to transpose the passion he has for painting into each of his pieces of art.
If you have any questions, or would like to contact David about the possibility of a commission, please don't hesitate to get in touch via the details on our contact page
About the artist.
David was born in Sheffield in 1959 and from an early age showed anaptitude for painting. Seeking inspiration and advice, David developed his style under the direction of his tutor and mentor Larry Feather becoming a leading acolyte of the Hibbert Brothers society of artists.
An engineer for 30 years, David Ball now wants to concentrate on his life’s passion for painting.
Having exhibited work throughout Yorkshire and Derbyshire and demonstrating his techniques at Chatsworth Country Fair, David has also had work accepted in London exhibitions; winning prizes in various open painting competitions including being the winner of the “Best Picture” award at the British Society of Painters in 1994.
While with Hibbert Brothers David was introduced to George Cunningham, Sheffield’s well known artist who expressed his memories of pre-war Sheffield scenes through paintings produced as limited edition prints and popular annual Christmas cards. George sat for David in his studio at Carver Street. The completed portrait, a watercolour painted against a backdrop of the Sheffield that George depicted can be seen amongst David’s work in the gallery selection. When George died in April 1996, Dave was presented with some of his paint brushes which he uses on his commissions today.
Working primarily in oils with a range of subjects in his portfolio, David has found a niche in the market for portrait painting…with a difference.
Clients can have a portrait of children, people or pets painted in oils with the option of obtaining their own personal DVD, individually edited showing the stages of the painting in progress.
